Nowdays a large volume of Geographic Information (GI) is available on the web. However, users of this information, professional or casual are more and more demanding; they require personalized results, which satisfy their needs. This involves information describing the user, his interests and preferences, commonly named user profile. therefore in this reseach work, we propose a new approach to design and generate a user profile that we call CartoProfile, because it focuses on the user's preferences regarding the GI. The proposed approach consists of several steps: (1) the information about the user, including his or her preferences are introduced to the system and organized according to the proposed profile model. (2) The CartoProfile associated with the user is generated by exploration of an ontological database named UserCartoOnto. Each concept of the ontology represents a category of GI user (CartoProfile) and it is described by a set of layers of interest, in vector mode, with its SLD (Styled Layer Desciptor descriptions). Finally, the requested map is built and delivered to the user. we validate our approach via a GIS Web application by considering a case study, we present the first results of our tests.
